Commuter Information

Tips for Commuters

Cars

  • Those arriving at SDSU for morning classes are encouraged to use Fairmount Avenue or 70th Street exits from Interstate 8.
  • If you arrive after 8 a.m., plan on parking east of College Avenue.
  • Traffic during peak hours will be congested. You are encouraged to arrive early and to consider alternative transportation such as public transit, carpooling or biking whenever possible.
  • Search for a carpool at RideLink, or take advantage of the Metropolitan Transit System bus and trolley service.
  • Avoid congestion on College Avenue by using Montezuma Road to access Parking Structure 5 and Parking Structure 6 (see campus maps for lot locations).
  • Daily visitor parking will be available in Parking Structure 5 and Parking Structure 6, as well as in Parking Structure 2 after 4:30 p.m.
  • The Red and Black Shuttle provides free service to C Lot and D Lot.
  • Parking permits are required for all vehicles on campus.

Buses

Commuting to campus by bus is a safe and convenient alternative to driving your car. Bus schedules are posted at the Transit Center and at the Aztec Center Information Booth; or you may call 1-800-COMMUTE or visit the Metropolitan Transit System for a list of bus routes, stops, and schedules to the university. Monthly student passes are available and may be purchased at the AS Ticket Office, located in Aztec Center. See Public Transportation Safety Tips.

Carpools

The SDSU RideLink program is free to all students, and you do not need to own a car to participate. You will be matched with other students who live near you, according to your class schedule. Students receive a brochure at the beginning of each semester containing program information and an application. You will also find applications at the back of the Class Schedule, at the Aztec Center Information Booth, or you can call 1-800-COMMUTE. Submit applications at the Aztec Center Information Booth. You will receive a printout within several days with a list of people living in your area. Only students registered with RideLink may use a shared permit for carpool use.

SDSU Van Pool

The San Diego State University Vanpool Operation is one component of the University’ broader RideLink Program. This voluntary program provides SDSU faculty and staff, the opportunity to rideshare with other SDSU employees living in communities in close proximity to one another. In providing this opportunity, SDSU is committed to the highest standards of service within the University’s fiscal ability.

The Vanpool Program is administered through a contract with Enterprise Rent-a-Car working closely with the SDSU Vanpool Coordinator at Public Safety. Your SDSU Coordinator can be reached by telephone at 594-6671, or E-mail.
