The bureau participates in all forms of investigative activities including: conducting surveillance, serving arrest warrants and search warrants, and probation and parole searches. Detectives are also responsible for monitoring and registering habitual offenders.

Typical crime caseloads include:

  • auto theft
  • battery
  • burglary
  • fraud
  • robbery
  • sexual assault

The SDSU Police Investigations Unit is staffed by two full-time detectives and is supervised by the administrative sergeant.

Pre-employment Background Investigations

SDSU investigators are also responsible for conducting pre-employment background investigations on police officer candidates and civilian employees of the department. Attention to this important function allows our department to be confident that we have screened and selected only the most highly-qualified candidates to become part of the San Diego State University Police Department.
